About GoTiB

The Goring Gap is in two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It surrounds a crossing over the River Thames between the twin villages of Streatley in Berkshire (North Wessex Downs AONB) and Goring in Oxfordshire (The Chilterns AONB). The Berkshire Downs lie on one side of the river and the Chilterns are on the Oxfordshire bank. With good transport links by road and rail, the area attracts a wide range of residents and is a popular tourist destination. Goring-on-Thames in Bloom was founded in 2008 to enhance the attractiveness and environment of this vibrant community by funding and producing floral decorations such as hanging baskets and planters. In the Queen's Golden Jubilee year of 2012 when the villages were bedecked with hanging baskets planted with patriotic red, white and blue flowers, we entered the RHS Britain in Bloom competition for the first time. Our efforts were rewarded with a Silver Gilt award.

Goring-on-Thames in Bloom strives to meet the criteria of the RHS campaign by working with many individuals and local organisations to create long term improvements and enhance the environment in which we live. By focusing on the three core pillars of Horticultural Achievement, Environmental Responsibility and Community Participation, we tackle everything from litter and graffiti through to conservation, sustainability and improving horticultural standards. As well as beautifying our local area, this has the added benefit of boosting the local economy by attracting extra visitors.

Following on from our success in 2013 when we received a Gold award, in 2014 and 2015 we brightened up some dull or untidy public spaces with new sustainable planting or containers as appropriate, and even have our eye on one area for a wild flower meadow. Such projects will increase the workload and require more volunteers to care for and water the plants. We hope to set up small 'job share' teams to take responsibility for these areas. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer.

In 2015 we won GOLD again AND were declared overall winners of the Small Town category.
For various reasons we did not enter the Thames & Chilterns in Bloom competitions in 2016.

In 2017 the BBC filmed throughout the spring and summer with the programme going out in spring 2018 - We won Gold.
If you did not see the programme when it went out and would like to see it please get in touch and we can let you have a file.

In 2018 we won GOLD again.

In 2019 we won GOLD and Best in the Regional Classes
In the National Final we won GOLD and Best in Small Town class - so we're the best in Britain!
