GGIB win GOLD in 2013!
Having been awarded Silver Gilt at the first attempt in the finals of the Thames & Chilterns In Bloom Competition in 2012 - the first step towards the coveted RHS Britain in Bloom Gold Medal - the villages of Goring & Streatley pulled out all the stops and we are delighted that Goring Gap in Bloom received a GOLD award for its 2013 entry! Not only that, but we also jointly won the award for the Overall Clean and Tidy entry and were highly commended for Goring Primary School’s contribution.
The judges' comments that were read out at the ceremony were as follows:
“Goring Gap has really embraced the bloom theme by producing a fantastic entry in what is only their second year in the competition.
Pride is evident throughout Goring & Streatley with colourful displays throughout the main thoroughfare complimented by an exemplary wildlife area in Withymead Nature Reserve and outstanding efforts of Goring C of E Primary School with their horticultural practices and environmental responsibility.
The enthusiasm shown by the bloom committee, residents and businesses would be the envy of many towns”.
Other comments commended the Village Green Fingers for the planting up of the hanging baskets and the Bloom group for their efforts in watering, feeding and deadheading; the litter pickers whose work reduces the demand placed on the environment; the village signs and interpretation boards; the water butts at the Village Hall and the solar powered water bowser – leading the way in resource management; the verges and green spaces, most notably Streatley Meadow, were well maintained.
