Fundraising
Goring-on-Thames in Bloom is entirely self-funded and run by volunteers. We are dependent on four main sources of income.
Parish Council and Businesses – in 2023 the council took over responsibility for the hanging baskets and pays a commercial company to provide and maintain them. In addition the management companies of business premises make a contribution to the provision of containers on their land. The council pays us to maintain their large planter in the High Street.
Grants – applications are made on an ad-hoc basis to local charities and benefactors when money is required for specific projects eg the purchase of baskets with reservoirs, new containers or equipment. Generous help has been received in the past from the Gatehampton Trust, Goring Gap News Association and the Firemans’ Trust, for example.
Donations - local individuals and groups make unsolicited gifts in appreciation of our work in the village. Benefactors include Great Western Railway, Gatehampton Trust, Gap HR Services (Carolyne Wahlen), Dr James McCalman, Goring Gap News, and Cleeve by Goring WI.
We also receive help in kind from local tradesmen such as builder Creswells. Contractors on the railway station – J Murphy & Sons and Hochtief UK – provided us with materials and labour which enabled our projects there to go ahead.
